College Board Calculator Policy Update (2025-2026)
The move to the Digital SAT (DSAT) has brought significant changes to what hardware students can bring into the testing room. While the Bluebook app provides a built-in Desmos graphing calculator, many students prefer the tactile feel of a handheld device like a TI-84 or TI-Nspire.
What is Allowed?
- Most graphing calculators without CAS.
- Scientific calculators (all standard models).
- Four-function calculators (though not recommended).
- The built-in Desmos calculator in Bluebook.
What is Banned?
- CAS (Computer Algebra System) models.
- Calculators with QWERTY keyboards (e.g., TI-92).
- Models that require a power cord or have wireless.
- Stylus-based or touchscreen calculators.
Is the TI-Nspire allowed on the SAT?
This is the most common question. Yes and No. The TI-Nspire CX and CX II (Non-CAS) are fully allowed. However, the TI-Nspire CX CAS and CX II CAS are strictly prohibited for the 2026 SAT cycle. Always check the top-right corner of your calculator for the "CAS" label before test day.
